Dan’s Story

My parents had a big impact on the way I look at finances and investing because they never worked with a financial advisor. As a result, I saw firsthand what can happen when someone is not financially prepared for retirement. That experience has made me determined to prevent others from making the same mistakes—it’s the reason I come to work every day.

I entered the financial planning business in February 1987, barely six months out of college. Eight months later in October, the stock market plummeted 22.5 percent in one day. When half of my twelve clients decided to leave, I had serious doubts about continuing in the business. If not for the encouragement and support of my girlfriend, now my wife, I surely would have left.

Today, I have enjoyed thirty years in this great industry, and I am so happy I stuck with it. That drop in the market in 1987 taught me some incredibly valuable lessons—the most important is this:

It’s not how much money you make . . . it’s how much you keep!

That concept has stuck with me every day as I strive to help hundreds of people fulfill their dreams for retirement, fund their kids’ education, pay off debts, and pass assets to family members without delay or substantial court and attorney fees.
